In its heyday, the city boasts a privileged location, since on the one hand has been in a distance from the Mediterranean Sea, which protects it from the raids, and on the other had a port on the river Evrimedon that allows possibilities to trade. The city even minted their own coins. Forgeries which are so willingly sold by local speculators. As a tidbit, the city was conquered many times and only in the XIII century was finaly conquered by the Seljuks.
